.Summer Goals.

Thursday, June 22, 2017
In honor of the first day of Summer being yesterday, I decided that what better time to do my summer goals post?! I chose to do summer goals instead of monthly goals throughout the summer, because to me, the summer months all feel the same... and they all go by far too quickly!

:: My Summer 2017 Goals ::

- Read More. I would be much too embarrassed if I told you how many half read books are sitting on my dresser right now. I'm always very eager to start a new book and then I never finish them. So first part of this goal is to finish the books I have started, and then read more books :)

- Get Fit! I know I know... you're probably thinking, "wow she says that a lot." Yeah, it's because I do! To be completely honest, I have a hard time following through with workout-related things. As much as I don't like to admit it, I tend to be a quitter when I'm not good at physical activities. BUT! In the early summer months I've started waking up, doing a short yoga routine, and then doing some simply at-home exercises. If you're looking for easy do-at-home yoga, I definitely recommend Yoga with Adriene on Youtube, her videos are phenomenal and very easy to follow along with on your own!

- Eat Less Crap. I am a huge lover of chips. When I was younger, everyone used to tell me that one day my metabolism would catch up with me, and that day has come. I never really thought it was true when people would say, in terms of junk/fast food, "eat that now, because once you're older you won't be able to!" But I'm here today telling you (and mostly myself) that it is in fact true. This summer I want to make it a habit to start eating healthier snacks, and snacking less all together.

- Grow. In every sense of the word. I declared personally that this was going to be a summer of growth. It's much more meant in a personal way, and I'm not really even sure I could sum it up for you. Just growth, in many ways.

- Adventure. Being that next summer I will have graduated college and will hopefully have found, or be looking for, a more permanent full-time job.. I feel it's necessary that I take advantage of my free days this summer, and adventure my heart out! Although I've lived in the same town/same city my whole life, I still feel like there are so many places here that I've never been, and want to go to.

It may be a short little list, but those five things are my main goals for this summer. If you haven't already, I encourage you to make a summer goals list, and to write it down and put it somewhere where you can see it everyday. It's exciting to look back on lists like that at the end of the month or the end of the summer and be able to feel like you accomplished your goals!
What are some of your summer goals?

Belated weekend recap -

Monday, May 22, 2017
*This is not a sponsored post. Any opinions given are completely mine, and this post contains no affiliate links :)
A few weekends ago, one of my best friends Natalie and her husband Mark were in town for an event happening at my home church. I was SO excited to get to spend almost a whole week with them, as we live almost 3 hours away from each other, and don't get to spend a whole lot time together on a regular basis. After the event was over, they ended up staying an extra day to see some of the city, and were nice enough to invite me along!

The first stop of our day was a cafe in Lawrenceville called The Vandal. The atmosphere alone had us all swooning, the pictures don't do it justice! They serve both breakfast and lunch and by the time we had gotten there they were serving lunch. The menu was simple and our waiter was extremely knowledgable about everything on it and was able to answer any of our questions. I got a salad that sounded a bit adventurous for my taste, but I was opened to trying something new. It had pickled apples, barley, goat cheese, beet slices and a beet vinaigrette. I was hesitant at first but I ended up absolutely loving it! I ate every last thing on my plate, it was that good!
After lunch we decided to walk around and check out some of the shops. We came across Una Biologicals and decided to stop in! This shop sells all natural organic beauty and wellness products. The woman who greeted us when we came in told us that they actually make all their products on site, which I thought was really cool! All their products has such a great scent, and they had so many different kinds of products! I didn't end up purchasing anything, but Natalie had bought a few little items for her mom and mother in law for mothers day.

You can't end a day in the city without ice cream, am I right or am I right?!
There is a somewhat new place in Lawrenceville called NatuRoll Creamery. I don't even have that much to say about this... but seriously how cool is this ice cream!? Natalie and I were so giddy and excited as we watched them mix our ingredients and roll our ice cream. It is such a fun experience, and a tasty one too! I got s'mores flavor, Natalie got Key Lime Pie and Mark got brownie :)

This weekend was one of my favorites, and definitely a great way to kick off the summer months. I absolutely love getting to spend time with friends that I don't get to see often.
If you are ever in Pittsburgh I definitely recommend checking out all of these spots and more!

Happy Monday :)

May Goals -

Monday, May 8, 2017
Yes, I am aware that we are eight days into May. I'm jumping on the bandwagon a little bit late, but better late than never, right?!

I see so many of my blogger friends do monthly goal posts and I find them so inspiring! Not only that, but I also see a lot of good change come from monthly blog goals. And I figure, if nothing else, at least I have these documented somewhere on the wonderful internet to look back on. And I have several strangers to hold me accountable ;)

:. May Goals .:

Blog Goals:: Be More Consistent. A struggle of mine, for sure. I want to grow my blog into what I've always wanted it to be. I just need to stop getting discouraged and neglecting it.
Make a Schedule. Another struggle of mine. This goes hand in hand with the first goal. Now that I have more time on my hands hopefully I can make this happen!

Personal Goals:: Take More Pictures. I love taking pictures. And I'm finding more and more that I love having little memories to look back on.
Practice my Photography More. Photography has always been a great big passion of mine, but I put it on the back burner because I am quick to compare myself to others. Gotta be more confident, and practice more.
Do More Random Acts of Kindness. Definitely a personal goal. Something that I used to do a whole lot, and need to keep continue doing.

I'm exciting to work on these goals throughout this month, and hopefully by the time June rolls around I'll have some of these checked off and completed!!
What are your May goals?

Life has taken a lot of twists and turns lately. Some good, some bad. But in the midst of it all I've been learning one specific thing: to be quiet.

In life, things are not going to go the way that we want them to all the time. I have been learning that so so much lately. Plans get messed up. Things you were hoping for don't happen. And most importantly I've been learning that that is OKAY. Sometimes all we can do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Let God take us where ever He wants us to go, doing whatever He wants us to do.

Learning to be quiet means to know when to rest. When to let go of all the things you are desperately gripping to in hopes that they will happen soon. I know I say it a lot, but change is a good thing. In the quiet and in the waiting, is where patience will grow and flourish.

If you feel like things are hectic and out of control, maybe you too need to just simply learn how to be quiet.

Here's to the New

Saturday, December 31, 2016
There's something about a New Year.
It tends to make you feel nostalgic, excited, and a little nervous and anxious all at the same time.
I love New Years. Because it's a fresh start. A time to start new. A time to welcome new things into your life, and a chance to grab hold of every new opportunity.

I've never been a huge fan of resolutions just because it has always felt to me like something that people say, but never actually do. I am guilty of that, myself. So instead of resolutions.. I'm going to share with you my hopes, dreams, and goals for 2017.

  • Do more of what makes me happy // is it selfish? No. I've been learning more and more throughout 2016 that people can't thrive unless they're doing at least one thing that makes them happy.
  • Practice yoga everyday // I started doing yoga over the summer because my sister had told me for a while how good it was for the body. It helped ease a lot of headache, back and hip pain that I deal with somewhat regularly, and it made me feel great.
  • Get in shape // Literally almost everyones New Years resolution or hope. I'm comfortable with my weight and everything, I just want to FEEL better in my own skin. I'm not looking for an intense everyday workout, but more so just some lifestyle changes that can help me feel more healthy and happy.
  • Be less afraid to be myself // A personal struggle lately. I admire those in my life who are fearlessly themselves, and I want to be that kind of person.
  • Less screen time, more face time // I've been getting really fed up with social media lately and the relentless grip it has on the world, especially my generation. In reflecting on this past year I can think of several times that I wasted hours of my precious life scrolling aimlessly on some app. I want to be more present. Like actually present.
  • Be more motivated // Again, I think my generation is caught up in this idea that procrastination and laziness is the key to leading the life you want to lead. But I don't think that's true. This new year is the year that I'll be graduating from college, and in these last semesters that I have I want to do well so that I can finish well. I'm done giving half-hearted effort towards things that are really important to me. It's time to kick laziness and procrastination to the curb.
These are just a few of my most important goals for the new year along with some personal ones. I have decided that my word for the year is Patience. It's always been something that I've lacked. And throughout 2016 I have learned that good things truly do come to those who wait. Probably the biggest lesson I've learned this year has been to wait on the Lord. patience patience patience.

This year has certainly been full of ups and downs, and I cannot wait to see what 2017 has to hold.

Here's to the New.

It's November:

Saturday, November 5, 2016

Life has been hectic as ever lately, but I don't think I would want it any other way. So many new things are taking place in my life and I am so excited to watch them all play out. I wanted to just give a little update, and let you all know I am indeed still alive... even though I haven't posted in months!

While I was at home over Fall Break, I got to spend some sweet sweet time with my family and do some fall activities.

I've recently moved to Lancaster and have been enjoying exploring the area and finding new places that I'm positive I will fall in love with.

I got to visit my (seemingly) long lost friend Natalie in Harrisburg over one weekend. We spent time drinking coffee, making apple crisp, and watching The Office. I love getting to visit her and have her show me all of her favorite places in her little town.

I've accepted the fact that I spend a majority of my time in the car now. With lots of coffee and good conversation, of course.

As the new season rolls in, I hope to get to blogging a lot more in my (very limited) free time. Keep an eye out for some Holiday posts coming up soon!
*with all the traveling I've been doing.. I couldn't even tell you where my camera is. So I apologize if the photos in this post are appearing blurry on your device!*

.. Breakfast ..

Thursday, August 4, 2016

When I was growing up, I wasn't very much of a breakfast person. I'm not entirely sure why, I just never liked breakfast foods and was never very hungry in the morning. Now that I'm older, and need breakfast every morning in college just to get through the day, I've become quite the breakfast person.

(as always...) I've been trying to eat healthier this summer and not eat so much junky food. Usually people think since I'm gluten and dairy free that that means I eat all the healthy things. I usually laugh in their face while I continue to devour my Family Size bag of chips...
While trying to eat healthier, I've come to really like eating oatmeal in the morning. Usually I just put some brown sugar and cinnamon in it but I've been wanting to switch it up a bit, and maybe be a little more adventurous with my topping choices. Of course I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration and ideas.

I didn't have a whole lot of ingredients to choose from, so I kind of made up my own little recipe just to try it! Here's my oatmeal!
(This before I put the water in)
Topped with chopped nuts (almonds, cashews and peanuts.), chopped semi-sweet chocolate chips (Ghirardelli semi-sweet chips contain no dairy!), chia seeds and some brown sugar. I wasn't sure how it would turn out.. especially because I felt I was just throwing random stuff into the bowl, but it was actually super tasty! It was just the right amount of sweet, and I felt so great after I ate it!

Do you have any morning oatmeal recipes that you just love? I would love to hear them!
