Here's to the New

Saturday, December 31, 2016
There's something about a New Year.
It tends to make you feel nostalgic, excited, and a little nervous and anxious all at the same time.
I love New Years. Because it's a fresh start. A time to start new. A time to welcome new things into your life, and a chance to grab hold of every new opportunity.

I've never been a huge fan of resolutions just because it has always felt to me like something that people say, but never actually do. I am guilty of that, myself. So instead of resolutions.. I'm going to share with you my hopes, dreams, and goals for 2017.

  • Do more of what makes me happy // is it selfish? No. I've been learning more and more throughout 2016 that people can't thrive unless they're doing at least one thing that makes them happy.
  • Practice yoga everyday // I started doing yoga over the summer because my sister had told me for a while how good it was for the body. It helped ease a lot of headache, back and hip pain that I deal with somewhat regularly, and it made me feel great.
  • Get in shape // Literally almost everyones New Years resolution or hope. I'm comfortable with my weight and everything, I just want to FEEL better in my own skin. I'm not looking for an intense everyday workout, but more so just some lifestyle changes that can help me feel more healthy and happy.
  • Be less afraid to be myself // A personal struggle lately. I admire those in my life who are fearlessly themselves, and I want to be that kind of person.
  • Less screen time, more face time // I've been getting really fed up with social media lately and the relentless grip it has on the world, especially my generation. In reflecting on this past year I can think of several times that I wasted hours of my precious life scrolling aimlessly on some app. I want to be more present. Like actually present.
  • Be more motivated // Again, I think my generation is caught up in this idea that procrastination and laziness is the key to leading the life you want to lead. But I don't think that's true. This new year is the year that I'll be graduating from college, and in these last semesters that I have I want to do well so that I can finish well. I'm done giving half-hearted effort towards things that are really important to me. It's time to kick laziness and procrastination to the curb.
These are just a few of my most important goals for the new year along with some personal ones. I have decided that my word for the year is Patience. It's always been something that I've lacked. And throughout 2016 I have learned that good things truly do come to those who wait. Probably the biggest lesson I've learned this year has been to wait on the Lord. patience patience patience.

This year has certainly been full of ups and downs, and I cannot wait to see what 2017 has to hold.

Here's to the New.

It's November:

Saturday, November 5, 2016

Life has been hectic as ever lately, but I don't think I would want it any other way. So many new things are taking place in my life and I am so excited to watch them all play out. I wanted to just give a little update, and let you all know I am indeed still alive... even though I haven't posted in months!

While I was at home over Fall Break, I got to spend some sweet sweet time with my family and do some fall activities.

I've recently moved to Lancaster and have been enjoying exploring the area and finding new places that I'm positive I will fall in love with.

I got to visit my (seemingly) long lost friend Natalie in Harrisburg over one weekend. We spent time drinking coffee, making apple crisp, and watching The Office. I love getting to visit her and have her show me all of her favorite places in her little town.

I've accepted the fact that I spend a majority of my time in the car now. With lots of coffee and good conversation, of course.

As the new season rolls in, I hope to get to blogging a lot more in my (very limited) free time. Keep an eye out for some Holiday posts coming up soon!
*with all the traveling I've been doing.. I couldn't even tell you where my camera is. So I apologize if the photos in this post are appearing blurry on your device!*

.. Breakfast ..

Thursday, August 4, 2016

When I was growing up, I wasn't very much of a breakfast person. I'm not entirely sure why, I just never liked breakfast foods and was never very hungry in the morning. Now that I'm older, and need breakfast every morning in college just to get through the day, I've become quite the breakfast person.

(as always...) I've been trying to eat healthier this summer and not eat so much junky food. Usually people think since I'm gluten and dairy free that that means I eat all the healthy things. I usually laugh in their face while I continue to devour my Family Size bag of chips...
While trying to eat healthier, I've come to really like eating oatmeal in the morning. Usually I just put some brown sugar and cinnamon in it but I've been wanting to switch it up a bit, and maybe be a little more adventurous with my topping choices. Of course I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration and ideas.

I didn't have a whole lot of ingredients to choose from, so I kind of made up my own little recipe just to try it! Here's my oatmeal!
(This before I put the water in)
Topped with chopped nuts (almonds, cashews and peanuts.), chopped semi-sweet chocolate chips (Ghirardelli semi-sweet chips contain no dairy!), chia seeds and some brown sugar. I wasn't sure how it would turn out.. especially because I felt I was just throwing random stuff into the bowl, but it was actually super tasty! It was just the right amount of sweet, and I felt so great after I ate it!

Do you have any morning oatmeal recipes that you just love? I would love to hear them!

The 28th.

Saturday, May 28, 2016
This lovely Saturday morning greeted me with sunshine and a sweet temperature of 84 degrees. FINALLY.
I am so so very excited that it finally feels like summertime here in Pittsburgh. I am desperately trying to soak up every second of it. I don't know what it is about this weather that gives me so much motivation, but I am not complaining about it! This sweet, slow morning consisted of blog planning, iced coffee drinking and magazine reading.

How are you soaking up your Saturday morning?

to grow // to change

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

I'm sitting in the student center studying for my last final of my junior year of college.

Life is so especially crazy as of lately but I can't help but be thankful for every twist and turn. Throughout this semester I have learned a lot about growing and changing. Coming back to school this semester was difficult after doing the Fall Semester at home. I was coming back into a place where peoples lives kept moving while mine slowed down a little. There was a ton of new people i had never met, and oddly enough it felt like freshman year all over again (and who really wants to relive freshman year? probably no one..).

This semester ended up being a lot more difficult than I had thought it would be in more ways than one. I was challenged in ministry in a whole new way, and I was given opportunities to do things that would stretch me and grow me in the aspect.
Along with that, I made some new friends. They always say you make lifelong friends in college and I fully believe that. I'm starting to realize more and more how important it is to have friends who are in the same stage of life as you. It sounds a little silly to say, but you need people to go through life with. And although it can be beneficial to have people who have "been there, done that", it really helps to have people to walk with through it all.

I know I haven't posted a lot, and when I do it always seems to have the same theme. Growth and change. I think that's the theme in my life right now. A much needed season of growth and change.
Thanks for listening.

Friday, April 1, 2016

April is the start of all things new and lovely. The flowers start to bloom, the breeze gets warm, the sun shines a little bit more and everyone just seems to be a bit happier.
As much as I hate change, I love new things. I like the turning of chapters. I like the step towards something new and not yet adventured. Being a 20-something makes new things all the more exciting.
I feel that I've been living in a season of constant change, and as anxious as I am for things to calm down a bit, I am having so much fun watching all the new things in my life unfold. It's hard to walk away from people you love, and situations that left you broken.. but when there is the hope of something new and better ahead, the journey is so much more exciting. I've been learning a lot in this season of my life, and I wanted to share those things with you today.

I may not particularly like this season that I am in right now, but I do know that there is something great coming up. I have hope in what is to come. I'm enjoying the journey. I don't want to miss the changes that are going on in my life because I'm stuck holding on to things of the past. It's something I need to remind myself everyday. To leave what's passed in the past.

What are some things that you're learning in whatever season of life you are in right now?

r e s t

Wednesday, February 24, 2016
Lately I've been very tired. In every sense of the word.

Something I'm learning more and more in life is that rest is important. Not even just sleep. But rest.
Sometimes it's better to turn down plans to just lay in bed and watch a movie by yourself. Sometimes it's good to hit the snooze button. Sometimes it's good to take bubble baths. Sometimes it's good to just be quiet.

I'm finding myself in the rest. I'm finding God there also. Coming to him in the quiet, for me, means that He truly has all my attention. All my focus is on him.

I hope that you can find rest today, and peacefulness in the quiet.
